Paradha

Set in a fictional, remote village in the Telugu states, the story centers on Subbalakshmi, a young woman living under a strict tradition where all women must remain veiled to ward off an ancient curse. Legend warns that any woman seen in public without a veil brings death and misfortune to the village. Subbu's life is upended when a city photographer captures her portrait without her consent during a brief moment her veil is blown away. The photograph eventually appears on the cover of a major magazine, causing a scandal that threatens Subbu's life and the village's peace. Determined to clear her name and confront the curse, Subbu embarks on a life-altering road trip to Dharamshala in the Himalayas to find the photographer. Accompanied by her aunt and a modern architect, the journey serves as a transformative experience for all three women, challenging their perceptions of gender and identity.
