Maanbumigu Parai

Vetri and Ezhil are two passionate young musicians who run a Parai troupe in rural Tamil Nadu, committed to elevating the cultural status of the traditional instrument. By refusing to perform at funerals and temple festivals—traditional roles forced upon Parai artists—they challenge the deep-seated caste prejudices that associate the instrument with impurity. Their mission to bring the music of the Parai to mainstream stages brings them into direct conflict with conservative social forces that feel threatened by their quest for dignity and equality. This social musical drama highlights the power of art as a form of protest and a vehicle for systemic change, following the personal and professional struggles of its protagonists.
